Deadly Unna Review Free Essays
ââ¬Å"Deadly Unnaâ⬠was the clench hand book distributed by the Australian Author ââ¬Å"Phillip Gwynneâ⬠in 1998. The book centers around racial pressure, fellowship, family strife and connections. The story is told in first individual by the principle character ââ¬Å"Gary Blackâ⬠all the more generally know as ââ¬Å"Blackyâ⬠. We will compose a custom article test on Lethal Unna Review or on the other hand any comparable theme just for you Request Now The story is generally Blackyââ¬â¢s relationship with Dumby Red, an indigenous Australian, and about how he, as a white Australian, changes all through the book, by understanding the racial clash and figuring out how to go to bat for himself. Blacky is more scholarly than he is lively; however he plays football for the town. He has an enormous family comprising of 8 kin, and he coexists with every one of them, setting aside the infrequent clash. He has a decent connection with his mom; be that as it may, he has a horrible relationship with his dad because of a past occasion. Dumby Red has an extremely excited, idealistic and self-assured character. ââ¬Å"Picklesâ⬠is Blackyââ¬â¢s closest companion, and he disgustingly unhygienic, with horrifying propensities. Blacky frequently goes to chat with his old nearby neighbor â⬠Darcyâ⬠, who a worm rancher and is brimming with guidance to give Blacky. The story is determined to a landmass of Australia, all the whites living in the ââ¬Å"Portâ⬠and the entirety of the blacks living in the â⬠Pointâ⬠about 1hour drive from one another. I accept the explanation the Author made the unmistakable seperation between the white and dark Australians is to stress the racial strain in the region. The book comprises of two sections, ââ¬Å"Winterâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Summerâ⬠. Winter being the footy is predominantly engaged around the footy culture of the town and spotlights on Blacky attempting to be the legend in his group, and in the long run succeeds despite the fact that coincidentally. They win the amazing last, and before the finish of the winter, Blacky turns out to be mindful of the huge racial pressure in the book. The ââ¬Å"Summerâ⬠some portion of the book is fundamentally loaded up with racial, and family strife, and over the span of this Dumby is shot dead. Blacky is confronted with numerous choices he needs to make, and he needs to follow his heart to make the wisest decision. This book moved too gradually for me, and containing a lot of abundance composing that wasnââ¬â¢t at all important nor did it identify with the fundamental plot by any stretch of the imagination. The book never settled the kinship among Blacky and Dumby red. After he kicked the bucket, Philip expounded on how they were such old buddies, however there was nothing in before in the book to help that, so that confounds the perusers a great deal. Another factor is that it doesn't identify with numerous individuals on the planet. It would just identify with individuals who originate from an extremely Australian culture that knew the entirety of the informal Australian language. I don't accept anybody thatââ¬â¢s originate from another nation would comprehend the book by any stretch of the imagination. I donââ¬â¢t even figure a few Australians would get it, as they may have been closed off from it. Also, I think it loses assortment by the style of composing and that isnââ¬â¢t at all something to be thankful for. The most noticeably terrible thing about the book I accept is the way it canââ¬â¢t identify with a grown-up, or a youngster. It moves way too gradually for a young person, and doesnââ¬â¢t have almost enough happening to engage most perusers. Be that as it may, it likewise had an excessive number of juvenile subjects and considerations for a grown-up to peruse, so it doesnââ¬â¢t truly identify with any broad age gathering. What I liked about this book is that it can teach youthful Australian youngsters about bigotry partially. A few people have no information on prejudice, and I accept that with direction, this book could teach them about a portion of the bigotry in Australia. By and large I rate the book 2 stars, as I don't trust it could do itââ¬â¢s work as a book to engage the intended interest group, or at that any crowd. In spite of the fact that I do accept that with the correct knowledge, you could take in certain things from it. Step by step instructions to refer to Deadly Unna Review, Papers

The mouse trap
The mouse trap A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. What food might this contain? the mouse wondered. He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning: There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house! The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it. The mouse turned to the pig and told him, There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house! The pig sympathized, but said, I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers. The mouse turned to the cow and said, There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house! The cow said, Wow, Mr. Mouse. Im sorry for you, but its no skin off my nose. So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and deject ed, to face the farmers mousetrap alone. That very night a sound was heard throughout the house like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmers wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmers wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital and she returned home with a fever.Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soups main ingredient. But his wifes sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmers wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them. The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness. So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesnt concern you, remember, wh en one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another. Each of us is a vital thread in another persons tapestry.Author Unknown

Analysis Of Plato s The Mind And Souls - 1754 Words
It was a simple concept that was built and moulded. That never existed in reality or theory until chosen and perceives it to exist. Socrates, the fictional identity that, Plato creates for himself, leads us on to a journey of the mind and souls through discussion with his fellow philosophers: Thrasymachus, Polermarchus, Glaucon and Adeimantus that eagerly approve to this development. In Book I, so what is justice? This abstract idea provokes Polermarchus to suggest that justice that justice is both the truth and paying off debts including those out of kindness (others done upon you) and wrong doing ( you done upon others). But how does this apply to evil and evil deed? Can the same rules apply? Polermarchus then goes on to say thatâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Those who know how to how to evade justice can manipulate it thus an understanding of one thing one can give you the complete understanding and comprehension of the opposite of that subject. E.g. A master keeper understands how to prevent objects from getting stolen thus understands the ways of stealing them consequently becoming a thief so ââ¬Å"takes a thief to catch a thief.â⬠Two sides to the same coin. Hence a friend may become an enemy and enemy a friend, give rise to one should trust no one. This brings the dilemma of what is good and what is evil? Is it in the eye of the beholder, our own morals and ethics? How can we judge by those standards? This exposes the credibility of appearances early on as a major theme and constantly be referred to continuously throughout the book. Thrasymachus offers tyranny. Obedience to the interest of the stronger, is unsubstantial and is likewise discarded. Plato uses many analogies to describe the fragmentation of the soul. However illustrating supremacy contradicting Thrasymachus demonstrating justices is power on the hand guarantees a harmonious life for both man and State. That justice is the excellence of the soul is Socrates main conclusion. But there are too many assumptions. Book II introduces new philosophical approach to justices, stating that legalities is justices so neutral laws are formed to enforced and developed for the mutual protection of citizens of a state so fabrication of the state to prevent civilians

My Ethnographic Fieldwork On Jewish Culture Essay
For my ethnographic fieldwork, I decided to do my research on the Jewish culture. I interviewed a friend of mine at her house, which is the field site I decided to work in. To protect her identity I changed her name to Rebecca. As soon as I got to her house I notice there was a small piece of metal on the side of her doorpost with hebrew text written on it. I enter the house and she greeted me and took me to her living room.In her living room I noticed she had a tray of bite size cookies for us and a Snapple drink. The cookies were sweet and they did not have strong odor. My friend wore black slacks a white blouse and a star necklace around her neck. After a while, her brother and father came in and I noticed they had a little cap on the top of their heads. I asked her questions about her religion and culture. Rebecca explained to me that the religion she and her family follow is Judaism. Judaism is the believe that there is one God who created the heavens and the earth. Their core belief is that God made a special promise, also known as covenant, with their forefather Abraham to protect them and blessed them, as long as they follow the commands and laws of God, and faithfully worship him. Rebecca also explained to me that they considered themselves the ââ¬Å"chosen people of God,â⬠because out of all the people in the world the Israelites are chosen to receive all of God s blessings. She also explain to me that for a person to be Jewish they need to come from theShow MoreRelatedPhilosophical Implications of Cultural Relativism4081 Words à |à 17 Pagesclarifying its various components like: 1. New Criticism vs. Reader Response Criticism Free Essays
What is more accurate, new criticism or reader response criticism? The answer Is neither, seeing as both styles of critic views and analyzes the topic at hand and gives feedback. Though both styles offer feedback, they are different forms of feedback entirely. New criticism involves focusing on the material at hand, and not what It was meant to be perceived as, to Judge the topic by every measurable feature possible. We will write a custom essay sample on New Criticism vs. Reader Response Criticism or any similar topic only for you Order Now Reader response criticism is when a reader or a Judge would Inspect the topic up and down, left and right. The reader Is not Judging based on hard facts, but as to hat the topic means to the reader, how It makes him feel and how he views the topic differently from what the creator may have Intended. When explaining food for example, one could say this dish has a lot of salt, or not enough flavoring, or you could say that this dish brings back memories of your childhood. Neither response Is Inaccurate, nor are they fully correct. A response Is entirely subjective and could vary in the eye of the beholder. New criticism is harsh and severe, basing their feedback off hard facts of the topic. Food for example, is one topic that people could use new criticism. My mother sakes a dish every Friday night called ââ¬Å"Matchâ⬠. It is an Israeli dish made up of roasted red peppers and tomatoes, usually served cold. A judge using new criticism might mention things like the texture is not right, or that the intensity of the spicy flavor is not up to par. He could say something like, the texture is just perfect and the density is not too thick and not too soft. He views this food as nothing but another dish, noticing its faults and its feats. Reader response criticism is a different story. Though the Judge who views my mothers cooking with new criticism may bluntly say what is wrong with the food or hat is perfect, reader response criticism entails a new way of looking at my mothers dish. L, for example, do not inspect my mothers cooking, to ensure sure it has enough salt, or that it is not high in spices to the point where I could not eat it. I criticize the food differently. When the plate is brought out to the dinner table, my first Interaction with it is its delicious aroma. This aroma does not bring to my attention if the food is well prepared or not, but it takes me back to my childhood memories where I can see my grandmother making me the same dish in Israel, where I am dated around my entire family. This dish means more to me then a delicious salad- type dish, but it is a representation of the strength of our family as a whole. This dish Is a symbol of what brings our family together at the dinner table, Joining us for one purpose. Many people may see a movie and Judge the movie based on a number of things. Say there was a movie based on a high school basketball team that against all odds made It to the state finals and lost. A normal cartel may comment on the skill levels of the actors Involved, or they may bring up the topic of the depth of the plot. They may bring to some peoples attention what was wrong with the story, what did not make Others may see this movie differently. One viewer, could have been part of a high school athletic team, and could understand and relate to the hardships that the boys had to go through to make it to where they did. He might understand the excitement they felt when making it to the finals, or the pain they went through when the game clock hit zero. Both forms of criticism may be accurate, but how you view a movie or a dish can vary on the experiences you may have went through or the past you may be used to. The Regulators Of North Carolina - Outraged Opressors Essays
The Regulators of North Carolina - Outraged Opressors The history of colonial North Carolina is bombarded with frequent strife and turmoil. The people of North Carolina, because of a lack in supervision from the British monarchy, learned to possess an independent spirit. The colony remained isolated from the rest of the country because of several geographical conditions such as poor harbors, the abscence of navigable rivers, numerous swamps, and bad road conditions. Due to these conditions, communities throughout North Carolina became widely seperated. The colony was initially set up by the Lords Proprietors, an English founding company that helped finance early American exploration. When North Carolina was freed from British proprietorship, the Granville family, descendants from the original Lords Proprietors, con-tinued to hold their land rights. This area, which became known as the "Granville District," was the scene of many disputes over land grants, taxes, British support, and a great deal of lesser issues. Settlers in the back country (Piedmont) felt particularly oppressed by the laws drawn up by an assembly largely composed of eastern landowners. "Local" officials in many counties, particularly in the western segment of the back country were not local men at all, but friends of the royal governor, William Tryon. These so-called "friends" often collected higher fees than authorized by the law while obtaining tax money or divided a single service into many services and charged fees for each. Lawyers who followed the judges around the colony also fell into the same habit. The citizens of Anson, Orange, and Granville counties were the first to make themselves heard. In 1764, this band of citizens, referred to as the "mob," created a number of local disturbances until Governor Arthur Dobbs passed a proclomation forbidding the collection of illegal fees, the practice that the people complained of the most. Their protests were calmed only temporarily. However, the efects of the new law wore off soon enough and sheriffs and other county officers returned to their old dishonest practices. Citizens complained largely in part because money was so scarce; local trading was almost limited to barter. Often, property was seized and resold, and citizens felt that their property was being sold to a friend of an official for much less than its true value (1). People among the Granville District were anxious to revolt and needed only a leader to provide the spark that led to the fire of the War of Regulation. A man named Hermon Husband became actively involved and was referred to as a leader several times, despite the fact that he was often nothing more than an agitator. Husband reprinted patriotic flyers with messages dealing with taxation withour representation hoping that citizens would call for reform. However, at no time during the Regulation was there an actual leader (2). Orange County was an early center of Regulator activity. Colonel Edmund Fanning, holder of numerous offices in the county including the prominent Clerk of the Recorder's Court at Hillsborough, became a prime target along with Royal Governor William Tryon, who took office in 1765. Tryon was hated because he aimed to use taxes to build Tryon Palace in New Bern, a very costly residence for himself, as well as the seat for the colony's government. The Regulators, "who named themselves after a group of country reformists in South Carolina (3)" shortly after Tryon's announcement to build the palace, had no sympathy with the governor's desire for a fancy residence. The War of Regulation was not limited to Orange County. Outbreaks of violence during the collection of taxes in Anson County and several riots throughout the Granville District were sure signs of what was to come. A group of men, apparently enthusiastic over the success of the Sons of Liberty in resisting the Stamp Act, called citizens together to determine whether they were being treated justly or not. Edmund Fanning denounced this meeting. Little was accomplished at the meeting, but this is where the Regulators proclaimed themselves as a radical political group (4). Minor oppositions continued to occur until the spring of 1768 when the sheriff of Orange County announced he would be collecting taxes at certain areas of the colony only, and if colonists did not pay at

enviromental systems in a row essays
enviromental systems in a row essays Environmental systems analysis of 2358 Flora St I chose to analyze an old three-story row house in Clifton. It happens to be the place I am subleasing currently. Although I have not had too much time to spend in it, since I spend all of my time in studio, I have noticed some major problems in the design and implementation of the environmental systems. I will go through some of these environmental issues and how they relate or dont relate to the architecture and recommend an improvement. The House is in a moderate climate, which means that you have to consider adequate heating for the cold parts of winter and enough cooling for the dog days of summer also. The orientation of the house was not considered at all for any environmental reasons. The narrow facade of the row house faces west, while the southern side is totally blocked from any sunlight by the adjacent row house. The shadow that is cast in between the buildings presents a few problems. One of them being no solar gain on the southern side of the house and the other is the walkway to the sidewalk takes so much longer for the ice and snow to melt than the sidewalks that are exposed to the sun. My bedroom has two windows on the west side and a window on the south. The south widow does nothing except lose all the heat that the furnace is pumping and the west windows may allow for a little bit of solar gain but any energy that is stored in the room is quickly lost through the poorly sealed and glazed window s. There is absolutely no vegetation around my house, so it cant provide any protection from the cold northwesterly winds that blow right through the glass in my bedroom windows. If my house were n the other side of the street, then the bedrooms would be shielded from the cold winter winds and the staircases in the back of the house would be the buffer. As I was saying earlier the south side is entirely in the shadow of the adjacent building, ther...

Qualitative General Depression Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Qualitative General Depression - Essay Example The purpose of our study was to investigate adolescentââ¬â¢s experiences with depression: how depression affected their relationship, their academic performance, their behavior with family members as well as treatment they have received. A comparison was then made on how qualitative study investigates the experience of depression compared to quantitative study in the following aspects. Data collection This survey involved Semi structured interviews of fifteen young adults who had been diagnosed with and treated for the major depression disorder between the ages of 15-19. When collecting data, two approaches were used: qualitative and quantitative research. Quantitative approach on the experience of depression applied more easily than qualitative research. It involved sampling the fifteen teenagers and the interview was audio taped for further reference. When collecting this data, the findings were summarized as follows: all the fifteen adolescents experienced significant factors i n their family concurrent with the time of their first episode e.g. hatred and been neglected, all the fifteen adolescents were not involved in planning or even involved in treatment during their hospitalization, depression caused these teenagersââ¬â¢ broken relationships and traditional school setting did not help the teenagers in dealing with depression hence the great impact. Data collected in quantitative research was hard and numerical. ... It can also be used in studying human behavior and the social world which is inhabited by human beings. Qualitative research helps us to adequately answer the question why? E.g. why things are the way they are in our social world. For example in our study, we were able to answer the question why depression has caused many broken relationships between these teenagers. The answer was that, the public as well as the private schools did not help these participants to recognize or even manage their depression. They were not even involved in planning nor were they kept involved of their treatment during their hospitalization hence this had a great impact on their relationships. Qualitative data collection describes tests and examines cause and effect relationship e.g. it shows a relationship between depression and family systems. Data collected shows us that there has been a dying relationship between the family members and the depressed adolescent as a result of behaviorsââ¬â¢ which ar e associated with depression e.g. smoking. Quantitative methods of data collection produce legitimate scientific answers and this can be seen as hard data. On the other hand, qualitative data collection produce soft data, which is seen as inadequate in providing answers and in trying to generate any, change (Strauss, & Corbin, 2000) Sample recruitment When sampling, the sampling procedures in each case are complex hence must meet the criteria of the data collection strategy. A sample in both qualitative and quantitative approaches is required which is a representative of the large group. We sampled the fifteen teenagers and this was a representative of the large population of the depressed adolescents in most of our societies today. Sampling in this case is recommended since it becomes

Flag Power in The Red Badge of Courage Essays -- Red Badge Courage Ess
Flag Power in The Red Badge of Courage à à à à Henry Fleming, after receiving his red badge of courageâ⬠¹a blow to the headâ⬠¹takes over the role of color-bearer during a vicious combat. As he sees his comrade sink to the ground in pain, he fights with his friend Wilson for the esteemed position of flag-bearer and finally wrenches the Union colors from the grasp of the dying man. With the flag in hand, Henry feels immediately empowered; the ubiquitous symbol of freedom and courage invests him with his own power and valiancy as he rushes headlong towards the enemy lines. Stephen Crane's continuous reference to color in The Red Badge of Courage, manifests itself outright in his few descriptions of the flag. The flag, symbolic by its very nature, invests the warriors with violent emotion as well as acting as an impetus for action, in the case of the young soldier. Crane emphasizes descriptions of the colors, the flag-bearers and the enemy's own flag to further increase the depth of feeling in the no vel. Since a flag often invokes deep sentiments of nationalism, patriotism and faith, Crane's very descriptions of the flag tend to be wrought with feeling and augment a description of character. à As Henry Fleming's character shifts throughout the course of the novel, the symbol of the flag also has a changing effect on him. As he becomes empowered rather than terrified by the battle, the flag too impresses him in an equally more powerful manner. Before he attends his first battle, he sees the "flags, the red in the stripes dominating." Crane further describes them as splashing "bits of warm color upon the dark lines of the troops." This convivial description further effects Henry's countenance as he feels "t... .... Moreover, the colors of the enemy produce such a hatred, that Henry insists on holding his own flag higher and using her colors as a sign of his battle-worthy self. à Works Cited and Consulted Berryman, John, Stephen Crane:à A Critical Biography.à 1950.à Rpt. East Coast Yachts cash flows Essay
When looking at a statement of cash flow itââ¬â¢s essential to find out what resources are being used under the operations category. As our text states, operating cash flow is really the cash flow generated by business activities, including sales of goods and services. Under this category organizations can also calculate tax payments, but not financing, capital spending, or changes in net working capital (Ross, Westerfield, Jaffe, & Jordan, 2009). When examining the East Coast Yachts cash flow statement we can see operating costs are just high enough to finance the companyââ¬â¢s purchase of fixed assets. Understanding what information is under each category is a key concept to understanding how the cash flow statement is set up. Which cash flows statement more accurately describes the cash flows at the company? The most accurate cash flow statement that describes the cash flows of East Coast Yachts would be the official accounting statement of cash flows. In this exercise there is only on cash flow statement so I would have to say this one would be the most useful when making business decisions. Currently as it stands the company really doesnââ¬â¢t have the assets to make an expansion. Womens Reproductive Rights and the US Constitution
Limits on reproductive rights and decisions by women were mostly covered by state laws in the U.S. until the last half of the 20th century, when the Supreme Court began to decide court cases about bodily autonomy, pregnancy, birth control, and abortion access. The following key decisions in constitutional history concern womens control over their reproductive choices. 1965: Griswold v. Connecticut In Griswold v. Connecticut, the Supreme Court found a right to marital privacy in choosing to use birth control, invalidating state laws that prohibited the use of birth control by married persons. 1973: Roe v. Wade In the historic Roe v. Wade decision, the Supreme Court held that in the earlier months of pregnancy, a woman, in consultation with her doctor, could choose to have an abortion without legal restrictions, and could also make the choice with some restrictions later in pregnancy. The basis for the decision was the right to privacy, a right inferred from the Fourteenth Amendment. Doe v. Bolton was also decided that day, calling into question criminal abortion statutes. 1974: Geduldig v. Aiello Geduldig v. Aiello looked at a states disability insurance system which excluded temporary absences from work due to pregnancy, and found that normal pregnancies did not have to be covered by the system. 1976: Planned Parenthood v. Danforth The Supreme Court found that spousal consent laws for abortions (in this case, in the third trimester) were unconstitutional because the pregnant womans rights were more compelling than her husbands. The Court did uphold that regulations requiring the womans full and informed consent were constitutional. 1977: Beal v. Doe, Maher v. Roe, and Poelker v. Doe In these abortion cases, the Court found that states were not required to use public funds for elective abortions. 1980: Harris v. Mcrae The Supreme Court upheld the Hyde Amendment, which excluded Medicaid payments for all abortions, even those that were found to be medically necessary. 1983: Akron v. Akron Center for Reproductive Health, Planned Parenthood v. Ashcroft, and Simopoulos v. Virginia In these cases, the Court struck down state regulations designed to dissuade women from abortion, requiring physicians to give advice that the physician might not agree with. The Court also struck down a waiting period for informed consent and a requirement that abortions after the first trimester be performed in licensed acute-care hospitals. Simopoulos v. Virginia upheld limiting second-trimester abortions to licensed facilities. 1986: Thornburgh v. American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists The Court was asked by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists to issue an injunction on enforcement of a new anti-abortion law in Pennsylvania. The administration of President Reagan asked the Court to overturn Roe v. Wade in their decision. The Court upheld Roe based on womens rights, not based on physicians rights. 1989: Webster v. Reproductive Health Services In the case of Webster v. Reproductive Health Services, the Court upheld some limits on abortions, including: Prohibiting the involvement of public facilities and public employees in performing abortions except to save the life of the motherProhibiting counseling by public employees that might encourage abortionsRequiring viability tests on fetuses after the 20th week of pregnancy But the Court also stressed that it was not ruling on the Missouri statement about life beginning at conception, and was not overturning the essence of the Roe decision. 1992: Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey In Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the Court upheld both the constitutional right to have an abortion as well as some restrictions, while still upholding the essence of Roe. The test on restrictions was moved from the heightened scrutiny standard established under Roe, and instead looked at whether a restriction put an undue burden on the mother. The court struck down a provision requiring spousal notice and upheld other restrictions. 2000: Stenberg v. Carhart The Supreme Court found a law making partial-birth abortion was unconstitutional, violating the Due Process Clause from the 5th and 14th Amendments. 2007: Gonzales v. Carhart The Supreme Court upheld the federal Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003, applying the undue burden test.

Analysis Of The Play Hamlet Essay - 1438 Words
How to Deal with Mortality? Hamlet Edition Hamlet is full of death. The whole plot revolves around the death of King Hamlet, and death is what drives the play forward. Hamlet is surrounded by death and struggles with dealing with it. Before the tragic ending, Hamlet loses his father to murder and his love to crazed suicide. Hamlet also murders the father of his love, Polonius. Shakespeare uses Hamletââ¬â¢s questioning of his own mortality and fear of death to connect with the human problem: that if we all die, what is the point of living? The opening scenes of the play show an interaction between Hamlet and the ghost of his recently murdered father, King Hamlet. Hamletââ¬â¢s father reveals to him that he was in fact murdered and that he must avenge his death. The ghost does not implicitly say that Hamlet must kill the new King Claudius to enact his revenge, but that is how Hamlet interprets it. Hamlet never considers another option in avenging his father. Hamlet could of approached the revenge by proving Claudius murdered King Hamlet. If this option had been taken by Hamlet lives could have been saved. Claudius would have still ended up dead, but Hamlet would of taken the throne and lived on after Claudiusââ¬â¢ execution for regicide. Intriguingly the ghost is stuck in purgatory, a Catholic idea, when it was illegal to be a Catholic in England at the time. Hamlet knows what he must do, but struggles heavily with the idea of committing murder immediately after the interaction andShow MoreRelatedHamlet by William Shakespeare1456 Words à |à 6 PagesThe play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, takes place in a time where the impossible was a part of the lives of everyday people. GSM Based Portabel Vehicle Security System Free Essays
This project is made for the purpose of vehicle security. Project is based on the Global System for Mobile communication (GSM).This project is designed for the immobilizing of the vehicle by GSM mobile phone. We will write a custom essay sample on GSM Based Portabel Vehicle Security System or any similar topic only for you Order Now The project consists of a circuitry with Microcontroller AT89c51 (MCU) and GSM modem in a vehicle and a GSM handset for Owner. The circuitry is constructed on the base of MCU which is assembled with Max-232 for the interface between MCU and GSM modem. Max-232 is a level converter used for the interface between the TTL and non TTL devices.Max-232 act as a bridge between the MCU and the GSM modem. Relays are used for the activating and deactivating the alarm and the locking system of the vehicle doors. A serial communication link is developed between the MCU and GSM modem. A connection from the starter of the vehicle is connected to an input interrupt pin of the MCU. When there comes a security breach (i.e. Someone tries to start the car) a signal is sent to the MCU telling that someone is stealing the vehicle. If there comes such a situation, then through an intelligent program (running in the MCU) a message through GSM modem is sent to the Owner asking for the vehicle control or activation of the alarm. If answer is negative then after receiving the message, MCU will automatically turn on the alarm and will lock all the doors of the vehicle. If Owner allows, then vehicle can start. Today science and technology has so much emerged in our daily life that we are Incomplete without its advent. The modes of communication are also changing as the technology develops. From a land line telephone to GSM wireless technology and then the Intranet. Today GSM technology other then communication can be implemented in other security task as well. Due to technology the remote control access has moderate the common person life very much that today we demand every event on our finger tips reach. As the present decade has seen the large development of cellular mobile technology. It has become an essential part of every one life. And if we use the same GSM technology for our around world security? Yeah today using GSM feature we can secure our far around object just clicking your mobile. Over the past decade, real-time tracking and management of vehicles has been a field of mounting interest. Now it has developed into a powerful and marketable package due to its low-cost and varying facilities such as Anti-theft system and Client identification. The importance of this module can be understood more clearly by this example. i.e., A business man sitting in a meeting listen the buzzer sound of the vehicle, till to any action the vehicle would been stolen. May be the vehicle is out of sight. So in this case may be the alarmed not been in a reach to be listen by the owner. But if owner of a expensive vehicle has a GSM vehicle system installed. Then before any one try to open the door, a message will come first time informing him about the security threaten. But if some one be able to access the vehicle ignition switch (starter) and when he pushes the key, the second time interrupt will be generated and a message will be sent to the owner, informing about the permission of vehicle start. If the owner enter a Master code key, and then press ââ¬ËYââ¬â¢(FOR YES), the vehicle will start. But in a case of ââ¬ËNoââ¬â¢ reply the system will permanently immobilize the vehicle. And in addition alarm will be buzzed, and automatically the door will be locked. The outstanding feature is that if due to any reason message canââ¬â¢t be delivered at the right time, the module will count for a pre-defined time, if during this time there is no response from the other node; the system will halt the process and again reinitializes the task. These are the all features we implement in our project module.Previously short radio security system was implemented with a detection device, This was not with upward features and has some drawbacks? As mobile technology is at its development edge, GSM is our core communication engine owing to which the position of the vehicle is notified to the client as well as our base station. This project provides enhanced security as whenever any security bench (interruption) occurs, a text message (SMS) will be sent to the desired number in order to take necessary measures. The information sent and received is done by using short messaging which makes this system further cost-efficient. This security system is more secure then the previous one with extra features as: The earlier system range was limited but with mobile long distance security is possible. So in this way if a thief manage to open the door through a master key, the system will count on trying to start engine after sending message to the owner Also permanent immobilization of engine on ââ¬Å"NOâ⬠message from owner. The system will also close the lens and lock the doors of a vehicle. As well as giving alarm to show that vehicle has threaten from thief. Another feature is that any time we can change the identification code Manually whenever we want to change it. This GSM based vehicle security system has been implemented in first world countries as well as in Europe. But this technology has not been so common in third word countries and Pakistan. The available module in market is imported from outside world which is very costly and also not in a common use and access. Our project based on GSM has been designed simply by using easily available component, and simple design. Also its advantage is that it is very cheaper, and their fore it can be very affectively launched in market as a productive product. Science vs. religion free essay sample
Word count 1351 Dawkins Analysis Science vs. Religion The following commentary investigates Is Science a Religion a piece written by Clinton Richard Dawkins, better known as Richard Dawkins, a British evolutionary biologist. Dawkins does not hesitate to share his views having authored several best sellers such as The Selfish Gene, The God Delusion, and The Oxford Book of Modern Science Writing, as well as several others (ibid). In 1996 The American Humanist Association whose slogans include Good Without a God, and advocating progressive values and equality for humanists, atheists, and free thinkers named Richard Dawkins Humanist of the Year (AHA). In response to Richard Dawkins piece, Is Science a Religion Dawkins wasted no time in his attack on faith insinuating the Aids virus and Mad Cow disease are less threatening to humanity than faith. Dawkins persist claiming, faith is one of the worlds greatest evils(l), Dawkins rapture continued on as he compared faith to the infectious Smallpox virus exclaiming faith would be harder to eliminate. We will write a custom essay sample on Science vs. religion or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page To further exploit Dawkins opinion he refers to faith as exceedingly dangerous and deems faith to be a brain virus. What is faith? To quote Mark Twain Faith is believing what you know aint so. The belief in the unknown, a person, place, or idea of which is not tangible and lacks any kind of factual evidence. Yet as Dawkins states faith is the principle vice of any religion(l). Could it be possible that organized religion is a way to control its faith driven believers? After all is it not true that God has done evil to people that have not followed his orders? For instance lets take a look at a couple examples. The Third of the 10 Commandments: You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. In Ezekiel, Zedekiah makes a solemn oath made in the Lords name. When Zedekiah breaks that oath God said for breaking a solemn oath in the name of the Lord I God will capture Zedekiah, and put him on trial for treason and have all his best men killed. Did those men deserve to die? Is it right to punish and those men for another mans mistake? I think not. The seventh of 10 commandments: You must not commit adultery. In Samuel 2 David commits adultery with Bathsheba and gets Bathsheba pregnant, as a result of their punishment David and Bathshebas son dies. (Lee Andrew Henderson Yahoo Voices). This is not fair punishment, an innocent child put to death for anothers mistake. Not the kind of world I would want to occupy. Your life is at stake every time you interact with someone. How can anyone find it fitting to have faith in all this cruelty? It all Just appears to be too much evil to contend with. On the other side of that coin one might tend to agree with Dawkins when he says, Given the dangers of faith(l). I immediately thought of working mothers and the dilemma they are faced with when going back to work after having a child. Every mother on this planet, ho has had to leave her infant or toddler with a babysitter in order to go back to work, has had little but faith to carry her through her shift. For at that moment faith is all she can count on in hopes that she has made a wise decision in choosing a babysitter that will care for as well as, protect her child from harm. At a stressful time such as this even if one is not religious you can bet these new mothers are praying to God asking him to watch over her innocent child. There may not be anything scientific about this situation concerning faith, however, sometimes in life faith is all you have. One may not be able to grab it and hold on to it, although certain situations require you believe with all your heart that faith will carry you through, and more times than not it will. When someone came forward at one of Dawkins lectures and said, your science is just a religion like ours. Fundamentally, science Just comes down to faith, doesnt it? Dawkins replied Well science is not a religion and it doesnt Just come down to faith(l). Carrying his reply forward Dawkins assured his audience of the fact, science is based upon verifiable evidence. Religious faith not only lacks evidence, ts independence from evidence is its pride and Joy, shouted from the rooftops(l). Doubting Thomas, on the other hand, required evidence(l). As for the other apostles they were held in high standard, as without doubt, their faith was enough for them. Dawkins explains the reason for the comment referring to science being a religion. He feels he is hit with such comments because as he put it because I believe in evolution. I even believe in it with a passionate conviction(l), announces Dawkins. Dawkins claims science to be one of the most moral and honest disciplines in the orld today. With that being said it would appear that one must have faith in the reporting of evidence. James Randi a Canadian American stage magician and scientific skeptic best known for his challenging the supernatural, psychics, spoon benders, believe these kinds of people are paranormal trickster, and continue insinuating that scientist are fooled by these tricksters because of there deliberate dishonesty, in which scientists do not anticipate. In other words, ne is trying say that all scientists are 100% honest and on the up and up. That is hard to swallow. What is science? Science is most definitely based on a process known as the scientific method. The scientific method requires that the theory be testable. If the theory cannot be tested it cannot be a scientific theory. First is researching a phenomena by observation, formulate a hypothesis, test the hypothesis through experiments, establish theory based on repeated validation of evidence. With this evidence of validation, being available for the world to see via the internet and a library full of books there lays information in detailed explanation as to where the uman race came from, the world and its scientist have finally reached the point in which there remains no logical argument as all signs and research results scream Darwins natural selection theory to be valid. We no longer have to wonder how we came to be, despite color, race, or religion we humans that walk this earth are here as a result of evolution. This also applies to any living organism that can be found on this space we call earth. There may be a lot of opinions regarding Richard Dawkins some good some bad. His opinions regarding religion however maybe true or may not. One thing for sure is that if there is a Heaven and Hell we cannot come back and report on it. Nevertheless, that does not discount it as a possibility. I will believe it when I see it; this is my view on Heaven and Hell. Unfortunately, as a society we have that divided we stand outlook on science verses religion, its as if the believers of faith and the believers of evolution are football rivals, and neither side wants to lose the big game. From the view of the faith team, it is understandable that they want so much for the bible and all its promises to be valid. I mean who wouldnt ant to live a luxury existence with streets paved of gold. Or be welcomed with open arms at the pearly gates by their family members, of whom they have not seen in who knows how long. Viewing from the eyes of evolutionist, must be frustrating at the very least, especially all the work and long hours to provide factual evidence to the people only to be shunned. The school system teaching Creationism and not the Theory of Evolution is a straight slap in the face. Curiosity gets the best of me in the wonder of how many generations will it take before evolution is accepted as the answer of how did I get here.

101 Pathos and Visual Rhetoric Professor Ramos Blog
101 Pathos and Visual Rhetoric Four Strategies Quick Write Take a couple minutes and analyze this image. 4 Ways to Persuade with Emotion (Pathos) Four Strategies Concrete Examples Connotative Diction Metaphors and Similes Tone Appeals to pathos target the link between audience members and their values. When we act on our values, we experience emotions like happiness, pride, satisfaction, etc. When we do not, we often feel shame, fear, or anger. The same goes for the actions of people around us: we are often pleased when the actions of people around us align with our values and angry when they donââ¬â¢t. Persuasion: Emotion Handout Visual Rhetoric 1. We live in a Visual Culture We live in a visual culture. We are saturated in images at nearly every moment of our waking lives. For this reason, it is important to develop critical thinking skills that allow us to read images. I challenge you to engage with images actively instead of passively. Take the images apart in order to understand their messages. Accept, reject, or qualify those claims. 2. Visual Media as Texts Learning to read images, deconstruct, and engage with them will make us better readers of texts, and vice versa. Visual materials that accompany written arguments serve several purposes. First, they appeal to the readerââ¬â¢s emotions. While images can be logical, they first appeal to the senses of the reader before they are analyzed more logically. In other words, their immediate impact is more on the viewerââ¬â¢s heart than the mind. Pictures can also serve as visual evidence, establishing proof that something occurred or appeared in a certain way. Pictures can help clarify data with graphs and tables and can also be used to confuse or trick an audience with graphs and tables. Pictures can add humor or satire to an argument. Visual images can be read as text, as such we need to think critically about them. Looking closely we can discern not only what they show but also how and why. Appeals to Emotion Images can be used to instill an emotional response in the audience. Even implied images in text can be very emotionally powerful. A description of blood stained clothes draws certain emotions in a reader. Lawyers know how important visuals can be. They dress their defendants in suits and ties to make them seem more credible. Types of emotional appeals: appeal to pity appeal to fear appeal to self-interest Sexual bandwagon humor celebrity testimonials identity prejudice lifestyle stereotypes patriotic Would you persuade, speak of Interest, not Reason. ââ¬â Benjamin Franklin Intro to Fallacies Logically Fallacious Key Terms Argument: A conclusion together with the premises that support it. Premise: A reason offered as support for another claim. Conclusion: A claim that is supported by a premise. Valid: An argument whose premises genuinely support its conclusion. Unsound: An argument that has at least one false premise. Fallacy: An argument that relies upon faulty reasoning. Booby-trap: An argument that, while not a fallacy itself, might lead an inattentive reader to commit a fallacy. The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy Fallacies This is a great resource for further reading on fallacies and how they areà not so simple. The articleà lists 223 of the most common fallacies. I do not expect you to know them all or to never use any. Fallacies are controversial. We appreciate logic and honesty in Western rhetorical thinking and that is at odds with many fallacies. Fallacies are not necessarily wrong, they work very well and are very good at persuading people. Fallacies are considered unethical and so we try to avoid them. They are thought of as flaws in thought, tricks, and sneaky uses of persuasion to convince others. Images as Arguments Images can be used to help us see the argument that the author is intending. They can be used to lower our skepticism, visual proof of something that happened. This is problematic nowadays with the popularity of programs such as Photoshop, where images can be changed or manipulated. Now more than ever, we have to be weary of taking images at face value. We have to critically think about images and their intended effect. Three basic questions we can ask. Who produced the image? Who distributed the image? Who consumed the image? Our textbook suggests a rule for writers. If you think that pictures will help you make the point you are arguing, include them with captions explaining their sources and relevance. I Have a Dream Speech The now famous speech ââ¬Å"I have a Dreamâ⬠by Dr. Martin Luther King was aided by visuals when it was delivered. He is at the Washington Monument, speaking to hundreds of thousands, smiling and waving. Behind him is the Lincoln Memorial. While passion about a subject does not necessarily mean they will write well about it, they can benefit from reflective and analytical writing about subjects they care about. Nonacademic subjects can be ââ¬Å"more intellectual than school.â⬠What does he mean by intellectual here? Real intellectuals turn any subject, however lightweight it may seem, into grist for their mill through thoughtful questions they bring to it, whereas a dullard will find a way to drain the interest out of the richest subject (265). AP by John Updikes
AP by John Updikes Introduction The story, set in a small town in New England, opens with three teenage girls, wearing just their bathing suits, walking into an AP grocery store; it is the watching of these girls that gets the story rolling (Tiger-town). The narrator, Sammy, a teenage boy working in the store, watches these girls closely, taking note of how they behave and carry themselves, their hair styles and bodies as they go on about their business in the store.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on AP by John Updikes specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Sammy and his coworker, the married Stokesie, ogle over the girls and joke about it. But Sammy is conscious of the fact that Stockesie is married and cannot go after the girls but he feels he still has the opportunity and freedom to go after the girls himself. The store manager, Lengel, reproaches the girls because of the way they are dressed and the girls are embarrassed. When the girls le ave, Sammy, hoping that they are watching, reproaches his boss for his treatment of the girls and decides to quit. Against his bossââ¬â¢s pleas he insists and in the end, he leaves only to find the girls long gone. Discussion The story explores a number of themes; the key one around which the rest seem to revolve is the power of desire (Tiger-town). The author manages to bring out this through the behavior of the characters. The girls, although thereââ¬â¢s no beach around, are dressed in bathing suits, a symbol of their disregard for the townââ¬â¢s social norms and a deliberate and explicit provocation of the men. Now they have set the menââ¬â¢s desires rolling, including the married Stocksie and Lengel who downplays it by confronting them. While every man watches them, they act nonchalantly, especially Queenie; thus, by not acknowledging the men, the girls further inspire the menââ¬â¢s desire while managing to avoid being subject of it. In Sammy, the narrator, the gi rls inspire much stronger desires since his desire for Queenie inspires his imagination. His description of the girls shows, on one end, his appreciation of the females, and on the other, how aggressive the male gaze is. In the end he quits his job; it is largely argued that Sammyââ¬â¢s reckless behavior is not purely as a result of his desire. Instead it is blamed on his hormones. Nonetheless, his response cannot be separated from his desire. For Sammy, he has attained a kind of freedom and the deliberate behavior by the girls against the norms, symbolized in their dressing, opens up a world of possibilities for him. As such when Lengel reproaches the girls, it is as if he has hurt Sammyââ¬â¢s belief in possibilities; Sammyââ¬â¢s quitting may as well be his effort to reassert to himself the world he has just envisioned.Advertising Looking for essay on american literature? The brand names in the shop sets the story in the American prosperity after the war. These names donââ¬â¢t just reflect the plenitude of the time, but also the domination of marketing in shaping peopleââ¬â¢s tastes. Sammyââ¬â¢s revolt is partly against the artificiality of these brand names. Conclusion Generally, AP is a story about desire; the girlsââ¬â¢ desire for male attention; Stocksieââ¬â¢s desire of freedom from his wife, Sammyââ¬â¢s desire of Queenie and for the desire that the adverts spark from the consumers among others. But it is equally the role that age plays in the belief on possibilities that is explored. Tiger-town. ââ¬Å"APà by john updike.â⬠2009. Web. tiger-town.com/whatnot/updike/
